CGRecord: Hi Adam congratulation for the great movie and the Award. Please share some information about Boketto. The Idea to start The Sentinel animated series?
Adam Floeck: Boketto is the artist collective that created The Sentinel. While we search for funding to make The Sentinel into animated series, we are also developing a slate of other projects through Boketto for platforms including television, games, and mobile apps.
The idea of The Sentinel started with the concept of a character who basically has the ability to move mountains, but is so stunted by his mental barriers that he can't see his true potential. This is where the story began for us. The more we developed the character of The Sentinel, the easier it was to build the world around him. As time went on we built out more and more of the world. We'd often shift around pieces to best suit the story, but the one thing that we made sure always to keep intact was the character of The Sentinel, an introspective giant warrior plagued with a lack of purpose.
Adam Floeck: What we've shown is a proof of concept trailer for a much larger story that we've been crafting for the past several years. Our plan is to continue to pitch the project in order to find partnership and distribution to take The Sentinel into production. We have episode summaries for the first season and the pilot script written and ready to go. All we need is to secure funding!
Adam Floeck: The trailer was created with the help of artists based all around the world. Because of this, we needed to develop a pipeline in the cloud. We used Dropbox Business account, and created a strict folder structure so artists could work on the project from anywhere. All they had to do was sync the folder structure to their home computer. The positive side of this workflow is it was relatively easy to set up for new artists. However, it was difficult to stick to naming conventions and files could accidentally be deleted. I would recommend this workflow for smaller projects, but for larger films I think it may be better to look into some of the new emerging online pipeline software built specifically for creating films online.
The main software we used was Maya, Adobe Suite, and Nuke. Also, we rendered in Arnold, with a combination of Rebus Farm, Zync, and local machines.
Adam Floeck: At this time, We are looking for distribution and partnership for digital and television platforms in both national and international markets. While we don't have specific plans for funding yet, we're looking into a number of options to determine the best route in order to tell the story we want to tell.
Adam Floeck: I think the most important thing for a filmmaker is to tell a story that is personal to you. The more you put yourself in the work you do, the more genuine it feels. That may mean fully inserting your personality into the characters, or just adding a toy you always loved as a kid into the background. I think that these subtle details, even if the audience doesn't notice them all, is what makes your film unique and authentic.
