His unique technical and artistic knowledge then landed him the role of Director of Distance Education, helping develop much of the texturing curriculum. Eric has been an instructor at Gnomon for six years and is now the Managing Director of the Gnomon Workshop.

Concept Design Workshop Australia 2011, Australia’s 1st International Digital Art Workshop will be held on May 9-20, 2011 at the NEXUS Multicultural Arts Centre, Adelaide. South Australia. This is exclusive event is a two week intensive workshop featuring some of the industry's most prominent concept artists.
Industry professionals and students alike will have the opportunity to learn what its takes to become a successful concept designer and will hone and develop industry specific techniques that are used in a day to day professional environment.
CHARACTER DESIGN FOR FILM
with Kevin Chen

This workshop covers the topics of character archetypes, establishing visual
design themes, costume, props and painting techniques. This workshop is
for anyone interesting in creating unique and believable characters. Kevin will show his process for creating thumbnails, silhouettes, B&W value studies, colour studies,texturing and final production painting.
Kevin Chen has worked for many of today's top entertainment companies as a lead and freelance concept artist. His past projects include Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Guild Wars, Alien vs Predator, 9, Gatchaman, and the upcoming Zack Snyder film Sucker Punch. Kevin has been instructing classes and professional workshops for various schools and studios during the past 12 years. His clients include studios such as Blizzard, Disney Feature Animation and Valve, and schools such as Art Center College of Design and Gnomon School of Visual Effects. He is also the founder and director of Concept Design Academy located in Pasadena California.
CREATURE DESIGN FOR GAMES
with Carlo Arellano

In this workshop Carlo will cover the topics of creating visually interesting and believable creature designs for games. A strong emphasis will be placed on character archetypes, design and functionality. With a focus on drawing and design Carlo will show his process for creating thumbnails, silohettes, B&W value studies, colour studies, texturing and final production painting.
Carlo Arrelano a leading international concept designer, has worked on Hollywood movies such as Spiderman, Planet Of The Apes and Van Helsing. Carlo has also played a key role in concept development of ground breaking video games such as God of War: Chains of Olympus, Resistance: Fall Of Man, World of Warcraft and is now currently lead concept designer at Insomniac games in Los Angeles.
VISUAL DEVELOPMENT FOR GAMES
with Terry Lane

This workshop show how to develop a unique visual style for video games. Topics covered will include character, prop design environment design and staging. Terry will show his process for creating digital sketches and renderingsincluding thumbnails, value/lighting studies and storyboarding techniques.
Terry Lane is currently Art Director at Bluetongue Entertainment in Melbourne has worked on hit games DeBlob and DeBlob: The Underground.
ART DIRECTION FOR FILM
with Nick Pill

Focus will be on the design principles of movies both live action and animated. How these theories should influence your choices as an Art Director or Concept Artist. Nick will demonstrate some of the choices an Artist should consider to support a Films visual structure. Showing his process for creating characters, environments, effects and how they are used and interpreted within a VFX studio.
Nick Pill is currently Art Director at Rising Sun Pictures in Adelaide and has contributed concept art and matte-paintings for many Hollywood blockbusters including the Harry Potter series, Wolverine and Terminator: Salvation.
ENVIRONMENT DESIGN FOR GAMES
with Simon Scales

This workshop will focus on the foundations of thumbnails, value/lighting, composition, digital painting techniques and architectural design skills used commonly in game and cinematic productions. This workshop is for anyone interesting in creating unique and moody environments. Simon will show his professional workflow creating thumbnails, B&W value studies, colour studies, texturing and matte painting techniques.
Simon Scales is currently represented by his agent Shannon Associates in New York , is a freelance videogame concept artist , matte-painter and children's book illustrator and has worked on the upcoming DeBlob: The Underground.
