Filter Forge 2.0 Beta

The beta of Filter Forge 2.0 has been released. This release is focused on texture lighting and shadowing. Here's the list of its major new features:

Here are some examples of Filter Forge's Ambient Occlusion:

Filter Forge's Ambient Occlusion comes with parameters that let you adjust its tonal range. Basically it's a Levels adjustment applied to the AO and RO maps before they are used in the final lighting calculation. With these controls, you can deepen or lighten the shadows or even create comic book-like outlines:

Here's an example of Reflective Occlusion, which is useful for automatically removing excessive specular reflections from shadowed areas. It's relatively cheap to calculate, because it shares most of the calculations with Ambient Occlusion. It's especially useful for rendering reflective surfaces with deep dark areas:

Here's an example of a texture render that combines the new point/area lights, ambient occlusion and Filter Forge's regular HDRI-based lighting:

The point/area lights have adjustable angular width and support unlimited HDRI colors which we introduced in Beta Stage 1. Since our HDR colors are unclamped and can assume negative values, the lights can have negative colors as well! This is physically incorrect but can be handy for "sucking out" the light added by other light sources or the HDRI environment. Here's an example of negative lighting:
